Description

Freshwater Turtles of Georgia Poster

The continental United States is home to about 60 species of freshwater turtle, with the southeastern part of the county having the highest concentration of species. Turtles are air-breathing reptiles living in rivers, ponds, and lakes. They are omnivores, feeding on plants as well as insects, small fish. While spending most of their time in or around water, they will climb up onto land to lay their eggs. Many of the species of turtles face threats from habitat loss and commercial harvest. However conservation efforts focusing on nest protection and habitat restoration has helped stabilize many of the most endangered species.

For more information on the turtles of Georgia visit:  iNaturalist – Turtles of North America or the Turtles of South Carolina and Georgia – Herpetology at SREL as they offer guides, species lists, and identification tips.

The Turtles of Georgia poster features several different high-quality illustrations. Each turtle is shown with both the common and binomial or scientific name. The poster is shipped in a sturdy 2″ mailing tube with plastic endcaps and can be signed or customized by the artist upon request.
