Leopards of the World Poster
Leopards (Panthera pardus) are adaptable, solitary, and nocturnal big cats found across Africa and Asia, recognized by their spotted rosette coats. These felines are highly versatile, living in deserts, forests, savannahs, and mountainous regions. They are the smallest of the big cats; the males weigh 30.9–72 kg (68–159 lbs) and are about (30%) heavier than females. They are skilled swimmers and climbers that often store prey in trees to avoid competition. Leopards are listed as “Vulnerable” by the IUCN, with populations declining due to habitat destruction and illegal hunting for fur/body parts. The Amur leopard (Panthera pardus orientalis) is the world’s most endangered big cat. It is considered critically endangered with a wild population estimated to be around 100-120 individuals in the Russian Far East and northeastern China.
