Texas, known as “The Lone Star State,” is the second-largest U.S. state by both area (268,596 sq mi) and population (over 31 million). Located in the south-central U.S. with Austin as its capital, Texas is an economic powerhouse driven by energy, technology, and agriculture. It became the 28th state in 1845.

Each state in the US has official animals selected to represent them. These animals usually are notable in the state’s natural environment, or for their historical significance, or is important to the commerce of the state. The congressional representatives of each state choose the animal (often suggested by the citizens, sometimes by students and their teachers to help familiarize them with the process in which something becomes law) and an official recognition of the animal follows.

The Texas State Animals poster features highly detailed and scientifically accurate illustrations, along with information about the animal and a map showing it’s range.
