Types of Zebras Poster Print

Zebras are hooved mammals native to the eastern and southern parts of Africa. These equines are found in savannahs, grasslands, and woodlands, but can also be found in upland or mountainous areas. Zebras and horses are closely related, both belonging to the genus Equus. The zebra’s distinctive stripes are thought to be used primarily to deter biting flies which find the patterns visually confusing (and therefore less likely to land on them.) The stripes might also aid in thermoregulation (cooling) and/or social recognition. Zebras are common and crucial prey for many predators, but are able to defend themselves fiercely with kicks and bites.
