Wildlife of the Florida Mangroves Poster

Florida’s mangrove swamps are critical, biodiverse habitats protecting the coast and serving as nurseries for 220+ fish and 180+ bird species. These forests are primarily composed of Red, Black, and White mangroves, with Buttonwoods often found nearby. Some key species found in the area includes the American crocodile, West Indian manatee, Key deer, roseate spoonbill, and a few different types of shark. Mangroves are sometimes called the “nursery of the sea” as many different types of animals reply on the shelter and food the roots of the mangrove trees provide as they develop into adults.
