The Wolverine (Gulo gulo) is the largest land-dwelling member of the Mustelidae or weasel family. It is the only species classified in the genus Gulo (which means “Glutton”). It is a powerful, stocky predator that will fiercely defend it’s kill against larger animals such as bears or wolves. It is native to the remote boreal forests and alpine tundra of the northern hemisphere. Because the animal requires a large range they have a very low population density. Due to habitat loss, trapping and hunting the wolverine’s numbers have been in steady decline for decades.
