Information about the Allosaurus:
The Allosaurus is an extinct dinosaur and member of the family Allosauridae. It was one of the first theropod dinosaurs to be discovered. Much of the fossil record comes from North American specimens, but some have also been found in Portugal. Allosaurus lived in the Mesozoic era, likely in the late Jurassic period, between about 154 and 115 million years ago. It was a very large predatory animal, reaching a height of about 28 feet (8.5 meters) and there is some fragmentary evidence that it could have been even larger – perhaps up to 40 feet (12 meters) The Allosaurus had an impressive set of large, sharp teeth. Like much dinosaur behavior, it is up to some speculation and conjecture as to how these large meat-eating animals hunted, but some paleontologists believe they might have hunted in packs, running down and attacking larger prey that they couldn’t have brought down alone.

Artist’s notes:
The Allosaurus was completed on 7.16.2012. It’s always challenging to make scientifically accurate illustrations of animals that have been extinct for millions of years. As with any dinosaur, the coloration, skin texture and patterns are somewhat up to the discretion of the artist. Some of the previous illustrations I’ve done of dinosaurs were a little more subdued, so with the Allosaurus I tried to be somewhat more bold with the design. The drawing is based on a rough sketch by renowned paleoartist Carl Buell.

The Olive Ridley Sea Turtle - also called the Pacific Ridley Sea Turtle - is considered the most abundant sea turtle on the planet. These reptiles get their name from the coloring of their heart-shaped shell, which starts out gray but becomes olive green later in life. There may be more than one million in the world's oceans today. Compared to other sea turtle species adults are relatively small, weighing on average around 100 pounds (45 kg). Olive Ridleys can be seen at nesting sites on beaches all around the planet, generally in tropical and subtropical areas. When the females are getting ready to nest, its believed they use the wind and the tide to help them find the beach. Females will lay about a hundred eggs, and may nest 1-3 times a year. Olive Ridleys are mostly carnivorous, feeding on such creatures as jellyfish as well as small crustaceans such as crabs and shrimp.
