Alpine Newt – Signed Fine Art Print
$19.95 – $27.95
Fine art illustration of an Alpine Newt (Ichthyosaura alpestris.)
Information about the Alpine Newt:
Alpine newts are native to much of the mountainous regions of Central and Southern Europe (they have been introduced into other areas such as the UK.) The scientific or binominal name is Ichthyosaura alpestris, which has been changed from the previous name of Triturus alpestris and Mesotriton alpestris. The females are larger, growing to be about 4.7 inches (12cm) and the males are about 3.5 inches (9 cm.) Alpine newts typically inhabit forests with good access to water in hilly to mountainous regions. They are mostly absent in forest-poor areas. They populate well in thick deciduous forests, as well as parkland and natural gardens. Outside the spawning season, Alpine newts live terrestrially.
The poster is printed on matte, museum-quality paper with Giclée printing quality:

Artist’s notes:
The Alpine Newt was completed on 1.23.2015. Some weeks ago I decided to create a collage of the world’s newt species. While the species here in North America all look roughly the same – at least in the western part of the US – the species in Europe are remarkably different and the males with their dramatic crest makes for a great subject to illustrate. The Alpine Newt in perhaps one of the more dramatic species of newts on the planet, which made it essential for the collage.
