The Indian Gaur - sometimes called the Indian Bison - is a large member of the bovine family native to the evergreen forests or semi-evergreen and moist deciduous forests of much of Southeast Asia and the Indian Sub-continent. This animal has a head-and-body length of about 8.2-10.8 feet (250 to 330 cm) with a tail about 28 to 41 inches long (70 to 105 cm) An adult Gaur stands about 5.41 to 7.2 feet at the shoulder (165 to 220 cm) and on average weighs between 1,400 to 2,200 pounds (650 to 1,000 kg) Occasionally a large bull can weigh over 3,000 pounds (1,500 kg) Males are about one-fourth larger and heavier than females. They are herbivores, feeding on grasses, plants and flowers. Due to poaching and habitat loss the Gaur has been placed as endangered or vulnerable lists by some conservation organizations. The Kiangis - also called the Tibetan wild ass, khyang, and gorkhar - is the largest of the wild asses. It is native to the Tibetan Plateau, where it inhabits montane and alpine grasslands. Its current range is restricted to Ladakh in Jammu and Kashmir, plains of the Tibetan plateau and northern Nepal along the Tibetan border. Kiangs are found on the Tibetan plateau, between the Himalayas in the south and the Kunlun Mountains in the north. This restricts them almost entirely to China, but small number are found across the borders in the Ladakh and Sikkim regions of India, and along the northern frontier of Nepal. Like all equids, kiangs are herbivores, feeding on grasses and sedges, especially Stipa, but also including other local plants such as bog sedges, Carex, and meadow grass. Mandrill is a primate of the Old World monkey family, closely related to the baboons and even more closely to the drill. It is found in southern Cameroon, Gabon, Equatorial Guinea, and Congo. Mandrills mostly live in tropical rainforests and forest-savanna mosaics. They live in groups called hordes. Mandrills have an omnivorous diet consisting mostly of fruits and insects. Their mating season takes place from June to October. Both the mandrill and the drill were once classified as baboons in the genus Papio, but recent research has determined that they should be separated into their own genus, Mandrillus. The Mexican Wolf is a sub-species of the Gray or Timber Wolf . It was native to the regions of Sonoran and Chihuahuan Deserts from central Mexico to western Texas, southern New Mexico, and central Arizona. But due to a steep decline in the larger prey animals such as deer and elk, the wolf began to attack and kill domestic animals, which then led to the animal being hunted by government agencies and private citizens, until the population was eradicated in the wild. Today, there are only a few hundred alive on the planet, and these are either in zoos or preserves. There are efforts to save the species being made at various facilities in Mexico and The US.
