Fine art illustration of a Cottonmouth (Agkistrodon piscivorus.) The illustration is available in black and white or color.
The Cottonmouth was completed on 6.28.2013. There was once a time I really, really dreaded when I sat down to draw a snake – particularly a darker colored one as I knew there would be many long hours spend not only doing the stipple work, but great attention had to be paid to the patterns of the scales – if there was a mistake it would be glaring and the eye would be draw to it. But I’ve developed some techniques that help assure that the scales look “right” and make sense to the eye. The drawing is based on a photo by HGHjim.
