Dolphins & Porpoises of the World Poster

There are about 40-49 dolphin species (depending on classification, including river dolphins) and 7 porpoise species, making around 47 to 56 total species. Dolphins and porpoises are both intelligent, social marine mammals (cetaceans), but differ in key physical traits: dolphins are generally larger, have longer bodies, beak-like snouts, curved dorsal fins, and cone-shaped teeth, while porpoises are smaller, stockier, have blunt snouts, triangular dorsal fins, and spade-shaped teeth. They use echolocation for hunting and communication, but dolphins are known for complex social groups and acrobatics, whereas porpoises are shyer and travel in smaller groups or alone.
