Information about the Duck-Billed Dinosaur:

The genus name for the Duck-Billed Dinosaur – Maiasaura – comes from a combination of Greek words meaning “caring mother lizard.” The Duck-Billed Dinosaur lived in the area that is not Montana in the USA, roughly 74 million years ago, which falls in the era of the mid to late Cambrian period. These were large animals, reaching about 30 feet long (9 meters) While there is some disagreement about the size and shape of the crest on the animals head, it was generally thought to be used for head-butting during the breeding season. It is also believed that it was a dinosaur that lived in herds and raised it’s young. It is the state fossil of Montana.

The poster is printed on matte, museum-quality paper with Giclée printing quality:
• Paper thickness: 10.3 mil
• Paper weight: 5.6 oz/y² (192 g/m²)
• Opacity: 94%

Description

Fine art illustration of a Duck-Billed Dinosaur (Maiasaura peeblesorum.)

Artist’s notes:

The Duck-Billed Dinosaur was completed on 12.2.2012. Some months – over a year ago now I guess – I started to draw all the state animals including the state fossils and dinosaurs. When I go to Montana, I realized I had to draw a Maiasaura peeblesorum. Luckily, I have a very good friend who is an expert in drawing extinct animals – Carl Buell – and he has been indispensible in getting these drawing completed. He does a rough sketch, which I then flesh out using my standard technique.
