Information about the Eurasian Lynx:
The Eurasian Lynx is a medium-sized cat native to European and Siberian forests, South Asia and East Asia. It is also known as the European lynx, common lynx, the northern lynx, and the Siberian or Russian lynx. While its conservation status has been classified as “Least Concern”, populations of Eurasian lynx have been reduced or extirpated from western Europe, where it is now being reintroduced. The Eurasian lynx is the largest lynx species, ranging in length from 80 to 130 cm (31 to 51 in) and standing about 70 cm (28 in) at the shoulder. The tail measures 11 to 25 cm (4.3 to 9.8 in) in length. Males usually weigh from 18 to 30 kg (40 to 66 lb) and females weigh 8 to 21 kg (18 to 46 lb).

Artist’s notes:
The Eurasian Lynx was completed on 6.12.2013. I love the big cats of the world – the lynx being no exception. I wasn’t aware how many extant species there were, so I was a little surprised to find out there are only four, and with this drawing I’ve completed all but one. I enjoyed rendering the fur of the cat, as I’ve drawn more animals with fur it’s gotten a little easier and quicker to draw. I hope to one day soon draw the last of the lynx species – the Iberian Lynx which is critically endangered. The drawing is based on a photo by Ellen van Yperen.

Information about the Margay:
The Margay is a smaller member of the feline family. It is native to southern North America, down through much of Central America and most of South America. Like many other species of cat, the Margay is a solitary hunter. It prefers remote sections of very dense tropical and subtropical rainforests and cloudforests. It looks similar to the Ocelot, but the head is a little smaller with longer legs and tail. The cat weighs from 5.7 to 8.8 pounds (2.6 to 4 kilograms), with a body length of 19 to 31 inches (48 to 79 centimeters), and a tail length of 13 to 20 in (33 to 51 centimeters.)
