Flightless Cormorant – Signed Fine Art Print
$19.95 – $27.95
Information about the Flightless Cormorant:
The Flightless Cormorant is a member of the Phalacrocoracidae family – which includes some forty species of cormorant and shags. It is a highly unusual bird, as through the process of evolution over many thousands of the years the animal has lost the ability to fly, and instead can only walk and swim. Like other cormorants, it has webbed feet and is an excellent swimmer. This species is the largest extant member of the family being 35–40 inches (89–100 centimeters) in length and weighing 5-6 pounds (2.5–5.0 kilograms. The bird is found on only two of the Galapagos Islands (Fernandina and Isabela) There are only about 1,500 individuals in existence today making it one of the most rare birds on the planet. Very extensive conversation projects are working towards preserving this unique species.
The poster is printed on matte, museum-quality paper with Giclée printing quality:

Artist’s notes:
The Flightless Cormorant was completed on 6.27.2012. This animal marks the likely last addition to the ‘ Animals of the Galapagos ‘ gallery. I had picked out four of the most iconic animals to draw (in addition to the ones I’d already completed) and adding the Land Iguana, Galapagos Penguin and Galapagos Fur Seal. For now, that’s all I have planned for the gallery. But if you’d like to make a suggestion please feel free to send me an email. The drawing is based on a photo by Eleanor Briccetti.
