Fine art illustration of a Hagerman Horse (Equus simplicidens.) The illustration is available in black and white or color.
Artist’s notes:
The Hagerman Horse was completed on 8.1.2012. Some years ago I started drawing some of the extinct mammals of North America. As the Hagerman Horse is the state fossil of Idaho, I had to draw one for the 50 State Project . This is a wonderful animal and I had a great deal of fun drawing it. Of course, it would have been so much fun to see one of these horses in the flesh, but regrettably they died off thousands of years ago. The patterning is probably more zebra than the animal might have been, but that’s the fun with extinct animals – no one knows for certain what their coloration was. The drawing is based on a sketch by Carl Buell.
