Information about the Madagascar Long-Eared Owl:
The Madagascar Long-Eared Owl is a medium sized owl found in woodland habitats on the island of Madagascar. Adult owls grow to be about 16-20 inches long (40-50 cm) which makes it the largest owl on Madagascar. Females grow to be slightly larger than the males. Like other owls, they are mostly nocturnal, spending most of the daylight hours in a hiding place. They emerge at dusk and begin to hunt, usually feeding on amphibians, reptiles, birds and small mammals. While it is not currently considered to be at risk, due to habitat loss it’s future – like many animals on Madagascar – remains uncertain.

Artist’s notes:
Madagascar Long-Eared Owl was completed on 2.20.2015. Each time I believe I might be done with drawing owls for a bit, I find another excuse to start up again! I’m putting together two collages – one of the owls of the world and the other the native wildlife to the island of Madagascar. This drawing will fit nicely into both. The drawing is based on a photo by Roger Sergeant.
