The Andean Condor is a species of South American bird in the New World vulture family Cathartidae and is the only member of the genus Vultur. The large birds of prey are native to the Andes mountains and adjacent Pacific coasts of western South America. While they can be found at nearly any elevation, they usually build their nests at elevations of up to 16,000 feet or 5,000 meters, usually in inaccessible rock ledges. The condor can live to be up to 100 years in captivity, which makes them one of the world's longest-living birds, with a lifespan of up to 100 years old in captivity.
