They are quite widespread and found on most continents, and include dozens of species and many more subspecies.

Artist’s notes:
The Punctured Tiger Beetle was completed on 12.27.2013. Each time I think I’m done with the order Coleoptera I find some reason to draw yet another of these fascinating insects. After reviewing several photos I knew I needed to add a species of tiger beetle to the image library. I decided to go with a North America native – the Punctured Tiger Beetle – and found a great photo by the talented wildlife photographer Alice Aleba who was kind enough to allow me to use it for reference.
