Saddleback Pig – Signed Fine Art Print
$19.95 – $27.95
Information about the Saddleback Pig:
A pig is a mammal belonging to the order of Artiodactyla. It is descended from the wild boar, and has been domesticated since ancient times. It is believed that there are about 2 billion pigs on earth. Pigs are omnivorous, and will eat virtually anything that it considers edible. They find their food in part by use of their snout, which is a very sensitive organ and can find food by digging around in the soil. Pigs are ungulates, which means they are hoofed mammals. Pigs have been introduced into areas where they are not native to, and are considered invasive pests, and can wipe out indigenous species of both plant and animal. Pigs are very intelligent animals. Europeans often use pigs and their sensitive snouts to find truffles.

Artist’s notes:
The Saddleback Pig was completed on 6.8.2011. I spent a lot of time researching this animal. I had a position and specific breed in mind, and had an idea to create a drawing of one that was all pink (as probably most of us think of when we think of a pig) but in doing some study of the pig, I discovered the “Saddlebag” breed, and thought it would make perhaps a slightly more interesting subject, with the duo-tone markings. The drawing is based on a photo by Desire Wu.
