Information about the Lemur Leaf Frog:
The Lemur Leaf Frog is a small treefrog native to the subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests, subtropical or tropical moist montane forests, rivers, freshwater marshes, and intermittent freshwater marshes of Costa Rica, Panama, and into Columbia. Due to habitat loss and climate change is it considered to be critically endangered. It breeds in small to medium-sized ponds and seepages by placing its eggs on the vegetation overhanging the water. While not generally encountered in the wild, it can still be found in some of it’s former range, usually within a location protected reserve where habitat restoration and artificial breeding sites have been built. This effort has allowed the once fragile population within the reserve to stabilize, grow, and even expand their distribution within the reserve.

Artist’s notes:
The Lemur Leaf Frog was completed on 7.10.2013. I’m putting together a collection of some of the more colorful treefrogs native to Costa Rica (although of course some of them can be found in other parts of the tropical rainforest) and I thought the Lemur Leaf Frog would go nicely in with a batch of six or seven different species. The drawing is based on a photo by the talented wildlife photographer Brad Wilson, who was kind enough to give me permission to use it.
