Saiga Antelope – Signed Fine Art Print
$19.95 – $27.95
Information about the Saiga Antelope:
The Saiga Antelope is critically endangered mammal native to the steppe zone of Eurasia. They originally inhabited a vast area from the foothills of the Carpathian Mountains and Caucasus into Dzungaria and Mongolia. Today, the nominate subspecies (S. t. tatarica) is only found in one location in Russia (steppes of the northwest Precaspian region) and three areas in Kazakhstan (the Ural, Ustiurt and Betpak-dala populations). It is extinct in China and southwestern Mongolia. Saigas form very large herds that graze in semi-deserts, steppes, grasslands and possibly open woodlands eating several species of plants, including some that are poisonous to other animals. The horn of the Saiga Antelope is used in traditional Chinese medicine, and can sell for as much as $150. Demand for the horns have wiped out the population in China.
The poster is printed on matte, museum-quality paper with Giclée printing quality:

Artist’s notes:
The Saiga Antelope was completed on 9.18.2014. One of the reasons I draw so much is that I become obsessed with animals once I learn about them, and I can’t really release that obsession until I’ve added a drawing of the species (or several) to the image library. When I came across the Saiga Antelope, with it’s unique look I knew it had to be drawn. I used several various reference photos along with some historical photos to create this pose.
