The Shoebill (Balaeniceps rex) – also called the whalehead or shoe-billed stork – is a very large stork-like bird. It’s native to the tropical swamps of east Africa from Sudan to Zambia. It’s a tall bird, with a typical height ranging from 43 to 55 inches (110 to 140 cm) The Shoebill is considered vulnerable, with the population estimated to be only 5,000 and 8,000 individuals.
