Information about the Shoebill:
The Shoebill – also called the whalehead or shoe-billed stork – is a very large stork-like bird. It’s native to the tropical swamps of east Africa from Sudan to Zambia. It’s a tall bird, with a typical height ranging from 43 to 55 inches (110 to 140 cm) The Shoebill is considered vulnerable, with the population estimated to be only 5,000 and 8,000 individuals.

Artist’s notes:
The Shoebill was completed on 5.10.2016. My friend and business partner Koji suggested a draw this wonderful bird, as they are very popular in Japan. I was aware of them, and the more I read about them the more I realized I wanted to draw one. I studied several reference photos and sketched until I came up with this illustration.
