The Taiwan Blue Magpie – also called the Taiwan Magpie, Formosan Blue Magpie or the “Long-Tailed Mountain Lady” is a species of magpie native to the broadleaf forests of Taiwan. These birds are unafraid of people, and have become fixtures in urban areas and cities. It is an opportunistic feeder and will eat insects, fruits and handout from humans.

The Taiwan Blue Magpie was completed in the summer of 2015. I was unaware of this species, but saw an amazing photo of one in my Facebook feed. I wanted to draw one after that, and studied several different reference photos before coming up with this pose. Magpies are amazing birds and I will likely be drawing more of them in the next few months.
