Emperor Angelfish – Signed Fine Art Print
$19.95 – $27.95
Information about the Emperor Angelfish:
The Emperor Angelfish is a colorful saltwater reef fish. It’s a member of the family Pomacanthidae, which contains seven genera and approximately 86 species. These fish are one of the best-known of the saltwater angelfishes. They are medium-sized, reaching a length of about 16 inches (40 cm) when full grown. While the adults are very colorful, the juveniles are strikingly different having a pattern of concentric blue and white lines on a black body. Emperor angelfish are relatively common and, as adults, inquisitive animals which may come quite close to divers. They are found on both coral and rocky reefs from shallow water down to depths of about 50 m. They live in pairs and swim about the reef with graceful unhurried movements. Although generally seen alone, the partner is usually nearby. Emperor angelfish feed predominantly on encrusted sponges with algae but will also eat small invertebrates.

Artist’s notes:
The Emperor Angelfish was completed on 9.16.2013. I’m a big fan of the show “Tanked” and I always get great ideas for different fish to illustrate. They often use Emperor Angelfish for the tanks, and with them being some of the most dramatically colored saltwater fish I thought it was time that I add one to the image library. I was afraid the dark eye against the black might get lost in the black body color, but I think it sticks out enough without looking unnatural. The drawing is based on a photo by and was used with permission.
