Gyrfalcon – Signed Fine Art Print
$19.95 – $27.95
Information about the Gyrfalcon:
The Gyrfalcon is the largest of the falcon species. They have a wingspan of about 43-51 inches (110-130 cm.) They are roughly the same size as the buzzard hawks (buteos). They are an extremely widespread falcon found on the continents of North America, Europe and Asia. They are am extremely “polymorphic” species, with color varying from individuals from white, gray, black and brown or combinations of these. The Gyrfalcon has long associated with humans, who have found them useful primarily for hunting and the art of falconry. It is today the official bird of Canada’s Northwest Territories. The white falcon in the crest of the Icelandic Republic’s coat of arms is a variety of Gyrfalcon.

Artist’s notes:
The Gyrfalcon was completed on 8.15.2014. Birds of prey are one of my favorite subjects to draw. There’s always some question of the pose. I found a great reference photo by the talented wildlife photographer Don Delaney (who kindly allowed me to use it to create this drawing) and I knew when illustrating the Gyrfalcon should be in flight. I will likely try and draw all the falcons native to North America.
