Information about the Striped Bark Scorpion:
The Striped Bark Scorpion is a commonly encountered scorpion native to much of the mid-section of the US and northern Mexico. It grows to be about 2.75 inches (70 mm.) This scorpion – despite it’s popular name – spends most of it’s life on the ground, usually under rocks, logs and other debris. The sting from this scorpion, while painful and may cause swelling, is not especially harmful and is very rarely deadly. Thousands of people are stung by this scorpion each year, usually when making accidental contact in and around human made structures.

Artist’s notes:
The Striped Bark Scorpion was completed on 11.8.2014. I love to draw these wonderful arachnids. Something about the style and the medium used really works well for scorpions. I was afraid I make this drawing a bit too small, but it ended up turning out ok. It will be part of a collage of scorpions I’m working on, as soon as I finish an Asian Forest Scorpion I’ll put it all together. The drawing is based on a photo by Matt Buckingham and was used with his permission.
