Artist’s notes:
The Western Grebe was completed on 4.23.2010. These birds are often spotted in the San Francisco Bay, and it was a pleasure to draw one. The patterns of the feathers proved a little tricky, but I ended up using them to help define the contours of the body and wing. I wasn’t sure what to do with the water, so I somewhat mineralized it, as I hope the focus will be mainly on the bird itself.
