The Golden Eagle (Aquila chrysaetos) is a large, raptor known for its dark brown plumage with golden nape feathers, powerful flight, and keen eyesight. The formidable predator preys on small mammals, birds, and reptiles. They’re found in open, mountainous terrain across the Northern Hemisphere, often hunting alone or in monogamous pairs that soar high and dive at incredible speeds. They build large nests (eyries) on cliffs or tall structures and the couples mate for life. While they are not considered threatened, they do face dangers by human activities like wind turbines and habitat loss.
