The Harbor Seal (Phoca vitulina) is a marine mammals found in coastal ocean waters of the Northern Hemisphere. They’re known for their spotted coats and lack of external ear flaps. They are opportunistic predators, feeding on fish, squid, and crustaceans. While they are solitary swimmers, they haul out on land in groups to rest, groom, and give birth, moving on land by wiggling in a caterpillar-like motion. They are excellent divers and can go down to over 1,000 feet and hold their breath for up to 30 mins.
