Marbled Hatchetfish – Signed Fine Art Print
$19.95 – $27.95
Information about the Marbled Hatchetfish:
The Marbled Hatchetfish is small, ray-finned fish native to the tropical freshwaters of South America. They grow to be about 1.4 inches long (3.5 cm) The unusual shape of the fish – so named for it’s resemblance to a hatchet – is thought to be a form of camouflage in mimicking a dead leaf. The fish spends most of it’s time near the water’s surface, adding to the illusion. These fish are very popular in the pet industry and are often kept in aquariums. They prefer softer, acidic water. They are omnivorous, feeding on small insects and plant matter. They are known to jump out of the water if startled, so if they are kept in an aquarium a secure lid on top is necessary.
The poster is printed on matte, museum-quality paper with Giclée printing quality:
• Paper thickness: 10.3 mil
• Paper weight: 5.6 oz/y² (192 g/m²)
• Opacity: 94%
Fine art illustration of a small school of Marbled Hatchetfish (Carnegiella strigata.) The illustration is available in black and white or color.
Artist’s notes:
The Marbled Hatchetfish was completed on 4.6.2014. As a kid, I always had a fish tank. Sometimes I had more than one – I wonder how my parents dealt with it! But it started a lifelong fascination and appreciation of these wonderful, colorful fish. I often had Marbled Hatchetfish as they were great additions to a community tank. It would be wonderful to go snorkeling in South America and see these fish in their natural habitat.
