Information about the Mojave Rattlesnake:
The Mojave Rattlesnake is a venomous pit viper native to the arid high deserts and low mountainous areas of the southwestern United States and Central Mexico. They generally grow to about 3.3 feet in length (100 cm) although they can get as large as 4.5 feet long (138 cm.) The color varies in this snake, usually determined by the environment and surroundings. Some snakes are greenish in color, and are referred to as “Mojave Greens.” Like other rattlesnakes, over the years the snake develops hollow areas on the tail, that it will rattle when it feels threatened. While their venom isn’t particularly dangerous compared to other species, if untreated a bite can lead to death.

Artist’s notes:
The Mojave Rattlesnake was completed on 6.2.2013. It used to be snakes were a serious challenge to me, due to the difficult patterns of the scales. If they didn’t “lay” right, the drawing would look odd and not work at all. But I’ve developed some new techniques that allows me to be more accurate in the rendering of the scales. This drawing is a little on the flat side, now that I look at it, but all in all I think it’s a decent effort.

Information about the Olive Ridley Sea Turtle:
The Olive Ridley Sea Turtle - also called the Pacific Ridley Sea Turtle - is considered the most abundant sea turtle on the planet. These reptiles get their name from the coloring of their heart-shaped shell, which starts out gray but becomes olive green later in life. There may be more than one million in the world's oceans today. Compared to other sea turtle species adults are relatively small, weighing on average around 100 pounds (45 kg). Olive Ridleys can be seen at nesting sites on beaches all around the planet, generally in tropical and subtropical areas. When the females are getting ready to nest, its believed they use the wind and the tide to help them find the beach. Females will lay about a hundred eggs, and may nest 1-3 times a year. Olive Ridleys are mostly carnivorous, feeding on such creatures as jellyfish as well as small crustaceans such as crabs and shrimp.
