The Mountain Lion (Puma concolor) also known as cougar, puma, panther or catamount. These large apex predators are solitary with powerful claws, tawny-fur and long tails. These predators are found across the Americas in diverse habitats including forests, mountains, deserts, and swamps. Mountain Lions are known for their incredible leaping ability (up to 40ft horizontally) and speed (up to 50 mph.) They prey mainly on deer which makes up about 75% of their diet, but they’ll also eat elk, bighorn sheep, coyotes, raccoons, rabbits, porcupines, and even livestock or pets if available. The cubs born with spots but they lose them as they mature.
