The Cooper’s Hawk (Astur cooperii) is a medium-sized, agile raptor native to North America. These birds of prey are highly skilled at hunting other birds and small mammals. These raptors have a distinctive appearance with a blue-gray back, red eyes, a long, banded tail, and a streaked underside, with females being slightly larger than males. These hawks are well-adapted to both forests and urban/suburban environments and have a stable conservation status. Cooper’s Hawk breed once a year, with the female laying 3 to 6 eggs that are incubated primarily by her.
