The Northern Leopard Frog (Lithobates pipiens) is a medium-sized frog with dark, rounded spots and light-colored, continuous folds down their backs. They are opportunistic predators that eat insects, worms, and small animals. During the breed period, the frogs will lay thousands of eggs in the water, hatching into tadpoles that eat algae before metamorphosing into frogs. It is the official state amphibian of Minnesota and Vermont.
