The Spotted Salamander (Ambystoma maculatum) is a secretive, black or dark brown amphibians with bright yellow spots. They’re generally found in damp or mashes areas of the eastern U.S. forests, often near vernal pools. They emerge at night to eat invertebrates like worms and slugs. They can live over 20 years and is the official state amphibian of Ohio and South Carolina.
