The Snowflake Moray Eel – also called the Clouded Moray – is a species of marine fish of the family Muraenidae. It is widespread throughout the Indo-Pacific area from the eastern coast of Africa throughout Micronesia including the Red Sea and Hawaii. The species is also found in the eastern Central Pacific from southern Baja California, Mexico, and from Costa Rica to northern Colombia. This species reaches a length of about 40 inches (100 centimeters) but its common size is about half of that. It can be found generally in coral reefs at depths of between 7 and 100 feet (2 and 30 meters.) These fish tend to do very well in captivity and are highly sought after as pets for aquariums, although care must be taken not to introduce fish or crustaceans that might be eaten by the eel, as they are formidable predators.
