The Snowy Owl (Bubo scandiacus) is a large, powerful birds of prey with a large range. While considered an arctic bird, they can be found in areas far south of the arctic. They’re identifiable by their striking white plumage. Unlike other owls, they are diurnal or daytime hunters. They primarily prey on lemmings but will also take Arctic hares, voles, ducks, and fish. Their dense feathers and feathered feet help insulate them from the bitter cold of the arctic. They nest on the ground in the tundra as there are few to no trees in their habitat.
