The Western Meadowlark (Sturnella neglecta)

is a ground-nesting grassland bird, about nine inches long, with a bright yellow breast and a black “V” on its chest. They have a varied diet of insects in summer and seeds in the winter. When nesting they will build dome-shape nest of grass on the ground. They are an iconic species of the western US, and known for their melodic song.
