The Western Bluebird (Sialia mexicana) is a vibrant, cavity-nesting songbird of western North America. They prefer open woodlands, oak savannas, forest edges, and areas with scattered trees and recently disturbed or logged areas. The Western Bluebird is identifiable by the male’s brilliant blue head/back, rusty breast, and the duller, grayish-blue female. Like other songbirds, they eat insects and berries. When nesting the bluebird looks for natural cavities or nest boxes.
