The Great Egret (Ardea alba) is a large, elegant white wading bird with a long neck, black legs, and a yellow bill. These birds are commonly found in wetlands worldwide, feeding on fish, frogs, and insects by stalking or standing still in shallow water. Once nearly hunted to extinction for its plumes, conservation efforts led to its recovery, making it a symbol for the National Audubon Society. These birds nest in colonies, often with other herons, building stick nests in trees, and are known for their graceful flight with tucked necks and trailing legs.
