The Harris’s Hawk (Parabuteo unicinctus) is a highly intelligent raptor known for hunting cooperatively in family groups. This has enared them the nickname of “wolves of the air”. These social birds of prey, found from the Southwestern U.S. to South America. Like other hawks, they’re carnivores using teamwork to take down prey like jackrabbits. Harris’s Hawk have distinctive chestnut, black, and white plumage with white bands on their tail, and are protected under the Migratory Bird Treaty Act. The former names are the Bay-Winged or Dusky Hawk.
