The Trumpeter Swan (Cygnus buccinator) is the largest native waterfowl in North America. They’re known for their all-white plumage, and loud, trumpet-like calls. Males of the species can have a wingspan of nearly 10 feet (3 m.) They are primarily vegetarians mostly feeding on aquatic plants. Trumpeter Swans are monogamous and form long-term pairs with their partner. Once near extinction, their populations have rebounded significantly due to conservation efforts, though habitat loss remains a threat.
