Atlantic Blue Crab – Signed Fine Art Print
Information about the Atlantic Blue Crab:
The Atlantic or Chesapeake Blue Crab is species of crab native to the coastal waters of the western Atlantic Ocean. It can also be found on the Pacific Ocean in Central America and the Gulf of Mexico. It has also been introduced into many areas it is not native to, due to it being a valuable food source. Adult Blue Crabs grow to just a little over nine inches (23 centimeters) and weigh roughly 1-2 pounds. (.5 to .9 kilograms) Blue Crabs are usually found in the brackish waters along the coastline, often in estuaries and other areas along shorelines. They feed on many different types of food, such as snails, mussels, fish, plants, and other smaller crustaceans. These invertebrates are very sensitive to environmental changes, and in some areas have seen steep reductions in number due to pollution and habitat loss. It is the offician crustacean of the state of Maryland in the US. Florida Panther – Signed Fine Art Print
Information about the Florida Panther:
Florida panthers are a subspecies of cougar native to the forests and swamps of southern Florida. These large cars are officially listed as an endangered species by the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service. The population was estimated to be 30 to 50 animals in 1993, and current numbers are believed to be only about 100, and most of these animals living exclusively in state and nationals parks. While their numbers are still small, thanks to very aggressive conservation efforts the numbers are on the rise. Radio collar monitoring and camera traps are being used to help save this endangered cat. The biggest threat to the panther is habitat loss due to development as well as interbreeding with the more common Mountain Lion. Atlantic Horseshoe Crab – Signed Fine Art Print
Information about the Atlantic Horseshoe Crab:
The Atlantic Horseshoe Crab is a arthropod of the Xiphosura, which are a group of marine chelicerates, which are a group of animals that are mostly extinct, and in fact there are only four recent living members. Limulus polyphemus, along with the other horseshoe crabs, have hardly changed in millions of years. As the name makes clear, this arthropod is found in the coastal areas of the Atlantic Ocean. They feed on mollusks, annelid worms, and other invertebrates. The crabs have three main parts to their bodies: the head region or 'prosoma,' the abdominal region or 'opisthosoma' and the spine-like tail or 'telson'. Horseshoe crabs have the rare ability to regrow limbs they have lost. Red Wolf – Signed Fine Art Print
Information about the Red Wolf:
The Red Wolf is a North American canid. This mammal grows to be roughly 26–31 inches (66–79 centimeters) at the shoulder with a total length of 44–65 inches (111–165 centimeters) with the tail of 12–17 in (30–43 centimeters). The body weight can range from 35 to 90 pounds (16 to 41 kilograms) but on average the wolf is about 54 pounds (24.5 kilograms) Unlike the more common Gray Wolf, Red Wolves are smaller and more slender, and are sometimes mistaken for coyotes. These animals once roamed throughout the southeastern United States. Before hunting, loss of habitat and control programs drove the Red Wolf to the brink of extinction, habitats included forests, swamps and coastal prairies. It was the apex predator of it's ecosystem, feeding on rodents, deer, rabbits and other smaller mammals.) The Red Wolf is considered critically endangered, as attempts were made to exterminate this species as the US was populated. But now there are intensive efforts to reintroduce them back into the wild in North Carolina. The Eastern Gray Squirrel (or simply Gray Squirrel depending on the region) is an arboreal mammal of the order of Rodentia (rodents) They are native to much of the eastern and mid-western areas of North America. They are highly adaptable animals, and because of this in areas they have been introduced (such as Britain and Ireland) they have largely displaced the native red squirrels. Dusky-Footed Woodrat – Signed Fine Art Print
Information about the Dusky-Footed Woodrat:
The Dusky-Footed Woodrat is a nocturnal mammal native to the forested areas of Mexico and California. They are sometimes called "packrats" or "trade rats." The Woodrat builds large, doomed dens that can be as large as several feet. These large protective dens usually discourage potential predators. While they are solitary animals, except when breeding, they will live in communities where there are several dens close to one another. It's been recorded that Dusky-footed woodrats of California will selectively place California bay leaves (Umbellularia) around the edges of their nest within their stickhouse to control levels of parasites such as fleas.
