Western Skinks are native to the western parts of North America. It is one of only five lizards found in Canada. They are very adaptable and can be found in a variety of environments, including pinion-juniper forests, open grassy areas, desert shrub, and rocky canyon rims. These reptiles are fairly secretive and highly agile. They feed on small invertebrates like spiders, sow bugs, grasshoppers and crickets. The Western Toad - also called the Boreal Toad - is a large amphibian native to the western parts of North America, from as far north as Alaska to well into the Baja Peninsula in Mexico. Anaxyrus boreas are very widespread throughout the mountainous areas of northwestern North America, ranging from sea level to elevations near or above regional treeline. They are known for their prodigious breeding, and in some areas will nearly turn creeks and streams black with the multitudes of tadpoles. But very few make it to full grown adults. The Western Toad feeds on flying insects like bees and dragonflies, beetles, ants, arachnids and other invertebrates. They are opportunistic feeder and will eat nearly anything that seems like food and will fit in their mouths.
