The Chestnut-Backed Chickadee is a small passerine bird native to the low elevation coniferous and mixed coniferous/deciduous forests. It is also commonly seen in backyards at birdfeeders. They can be found from Alaska in the north, all the way through much of the Pacific Coast to southwestern California. They are small - even for a chickadee - only 4.5–4.9 inches long (11.5–12.5 cm) weighing about 0.30–0.44 ounces (8.5–12.6 g.) They will eat insects and other small invertebrates found in the foliage, as well as seeds, fruits and will readily eat food offered at birdfeeders, and are especially drawn to suet. The scientific name changed from "Parus rufescens" to "Poecile rufescens" representing the belief that the bird is it's own specific genus. The Chilean Flamingo is a large species of shorebird closely related to Caribbean and Greater Flamingo. As the same suggests it occurs in temperate areas of Central Peru south through Chile, Bolivia, and Argentina to Tierra del Fuego, but it has also been introduced into areas of Germany and the Netherlands. The flamingo inhabits shallow saline and alkaline lakes and lagoons. Like all flamingos this bird is very gregarious as it generally flocks in groups of a few hundred to tens of thousands, where it displays ritualized movements of head and wings, accompanied by loud calls. The Chinese Alligator is one of only two species of alligator. While its appearance is very similar to the only other living member of the genus, the American alligator, there are a few differences. Usually this species is smaller than the American species, and an adult only reaches a length of 5 feet (1.5 m) and a mass of 80 pounds (36 kg). Unlike the American alligator, the Chinese alligator is fully armored; even the belly is armored, which is a feature of only a few crocodilians. The Chinese alligator is class one endangered species and listed as a CITES Appendix I species, which puts extreme restrictions on its trade and exportation throughout the world. The Chinese alligator is mainly endangered because of habitat pollution and reduction as their distribution areas are turned into rice paddies. Extermination is also an issue, as farmers consider them to be a menace. Overall, the Chinese alligator lives in a subtropical, temperate region. The Chinese alligator's usual habitat was in places of low-elevation and freshwater sources. This includes marshes, lakes, streams, and ponds. Wetlands are extremely important to the Chinese alligators due to the biodiversity that is within them. The Chinese Pangolin is a scaly anteater native to the subtropical and deciduous forests of the Indian sub-continent and into southern China and other parts of southeast Asia. They are mostly solitary and nocturnal, choosing to sleep in their burrowing during the day and emerging after sunset. The behaviors and habits of these animals is still not very well known. In fact, a deceased specimen was kept in a glass jar and for many years remained unidentified. they are about 30 inches long and weigh about 12 pounds on average. When threatened, the pangolin will roll up into a ball. As with other anteaters the pangolin has a long sticky tongue which is used to eat ants and termites. Due to hunting an habitat loss Chinese Pangolins are considered endangered and are protected under international law.
