Information about the Cabezon:
The Cabezon is a member of the family Cottidae, which are sculpins. The Cabezon is native to the Pacific coast of North America, from British Columbia to southern California. It is the only member of its genus currently known. The Cabezon is a scaleless fish with a broad bony support extending from the eye across the cheek just under the skin. Normally it has 11 spines on the dorsal fin. It also has a stout spine before the eye, an anal fin of soft rays, and a fleshy flap on the middle of the snout. A pair of longer flaps are just behind the eyes. The mouth is broad with many small teeth. The coloring varies, but is generally mottled with browns, greens and reds roughly 90% of red fish are males, whereas about 90% of green fish are females. It reaches a weight of up to 25 pounds. The California Sheephead are native to the kelp forests and open, rocky areas of the Pacific Ocean off the coastline of the US. They are sexually dimorphic, which means their are physical differences between males and females; the females are smaller than the males and are without the distinctive coloration of the males and their bands of red and black with white bellies. Sheephead have powerful jaws used to pry animals from rocks, usually crustaceans or other hard bodied invertebrates. Their teeth are then used to grind up the animal. They are active during the day and usually retreat into a rock crevice during the night. These large fish were once plentiful, but overfishing has caused their number to plummet, and there is now restrictions on how many can be caught. All sheephead are born female, but change their gender as they age. The Bay Area Blond Tarantula is of the genus Aphonopelma. They are large arachnids, with legspans up to 7-8 inches long. They're found in arid, dry areas generally burrowing down during the day and hunting at night. While the Bay Area Blond Tarantula is venomous, the poison isn't extremely harmful to humans and generally the spider will rarely bite unless provoked. Tarantulas are carnivores feeding on smaller arthropods and insects. They cannot digest the animal, so the spider will secrete digestive enzymes which turns the animal basically into liquid form, which the tarantula will then ingest using it's mouthparts like a straw.
