The American White Ibis is a species of bird in the ibis family, Threskiornithidae. It is found from North Carolina via the Gulf Coast of the United States south through most of the coastal New World tropics. This particular ibis is a medium-sized bird with an overall white plumage, bright red-orange down-curved bill and long legs, and black wing tips that are usually only visible in flight. Males are larger and have longer bills than females. The breeding range runs along the Gulf and Atlantic Coast, and the coasts of Mexico and Central America. Outside the breeding period, the range extends further inland in North America and also includes the Caribbean. It is also found along the northwestern South American coastline in Colombia and Venezuela. Populations in central Venezuela overlap and interbreed with the scarlet ibis. The two have been classified by some authorities as a single species. The Boat-Billed Heron Heron - sometimes just called a "boatbill" is an atypical member of the heron family. It was formerly thought to be in a monotypic family, Cochlearidae but has since been moved into family Ardeidae. It's native the warm mangrove swamps from Mexico south to Peru and Brazil. It is a nocturnal bird, and breeds semi-colonially in mangrove trees, laying 2-4 bluish white eggs in a twig nest. The boat-billed heron is about 21 inches long (54 cm). The massive broad scoop-like bill, which gives rise to this species' name, is mainly black. This wading birds feeds on primarily on fish, rodents, eggs, crustaceans, insects and amphibians. The Brown Pelican of the smallest of the eight species of pelican. Despite being a small pelican, it is a large bird, being 42–54 inches in length (106–137 centimeters, weighing between 6.1 to 12 pounds (2.75 to 5.5 kilograms) with a wingspan from 6.0 to 8.2 feet (1.83 to 2.5 meters.) They birds are native to both sides of the North American Continent on the Atlantic, Pacific and Gulf coasts. They are very gregarious birds, flocking in large numbers. Like all pelicans, these birds use their enormous bills to catch food, diving bombing their prey from several feet above the water, then allowing the water to drain out they swallow whatever fish they've caught. The widespread use of DDT in the 70's dramatically threatened their population, and in some places they were nearly exterminated. With the banning of DDT their numbers have rebounded and now enjoy a stable, healthy population in most of their native range.
