The Common Yellowthroat is a member of the Parulidae family, which are New World Warblers. It is a small skulking warbler native to much of North America from the Yukon to Newfoundland, and from southern Florida to southern Mexico. While it's overall numbers are in decline, it is still a very common bird (although it is more frequently heard rather than seen, with it's distinctive "wich-i-ty, wich-i-ty, wich-i-ty" song. The Common Yellowthroat is found in many different habitats, such as forests with damp brushy area, grassy areas along country roads or in agricultural lands, marshy areas with willows near streams, swamps, and lakes. During the breeding season, the male will perform a special flight song, rising high into the air while singing. The Desert Cardinal or Pyrrhuloxia is a medium-sized member of the order of Passeriformes. It is native to the deserts and scrublands of the southwestern parts of North America. It is one of only three birds of the genus Cardinalis, with the Northern and Vermillion Cardinals being the other two. These birds go to lengths of about 8.3 inches (21 cm) with an the average weight is 0.8–1.5 ounces (24–43 g). Both males and females are about the same size. Pyrrhuloxia does not generally migrate, but spends the year round in the dry deserts and mesquite thickets, where it feeds on fruits, seed and insects. The bird gets it's distinctive name "Pyrrhuloxia" from a combination of the genus names Pyrrhula (bullfinches) and Loxia (crossbills). The roots mean "flame-colored" and "crooked," and accurately describe the bright reddish gray bird with the crooked bill. The Eastern Bluebird is a small thrush native to the open woodlands, farmland, orchards and urban and suburban areas. As the name implies, they inhabit the eastern part of North America, from the Rocky Mountains, from southern Canada down to the Gulf States and southeastern Arizona to Central America.
