Carpenter Ant – Signed Fine Art Print
Information about the Carpenter Ant:
Carpenter Ants are small invertebrates and members of the order Hymenoptera, which is one of the largest order of insects that includes wasps, bees and ants. There are about 130,000 indentified species in this order. They are indigenous to many different parts of the world, usually residing in dead and decaying wood to build their colonies and raise their offspring, carving out living areas in the wood, and that is where they get their common name from. However, they do not eat wood, and have little interest in healthy wood that is not in the process of rotting. They are extremely adaptable and will live in a variety of environments, often in manmade structures and are often viewed as destructive pests. Carpenter ants coloration can vary, even within the same species. But they are usually black, brown or a combination of the two. Cecropia Moth – Signed Fine Art Print
Information about the Cecropia Moth:
The Cecropia Moth is North America's largest moth. It is a member of the Saturniidae, which are the worlds largest moths. The range of this large flying insect is east of the Rocky Mountains in the United States and southern Canada. They have a wingspan of 5-6 inches, although specimens with largest wingspans have been found. While the caterpillar stage of the moth is a voracious eater, feeding on the leaves of many different types of trees, the adult moth itself does not eat during it's lifetime. It survives only for a few weeks, and during that time it's only purpose is to mate. Like many other moths, the Cecropia Moth is mostly nocturnal and not active during the day, so it is not very often encountered by humans.
